The Jacksboro Garden Club will be celebrating its 35th birthday this year. Organized in 1981, the   Garden Club is dedicated to stimulating the knowledge and love of gardening, aiding in the   protection of native plants and birds and cooperating in civic beautification projects. Two of the   charter members, Carolyn Calhoun and Dorothy Martin, are still actively involved in the club.   Jacksboro Garden Club is affiliated with Texas Garden Club Association and is in District II.   Meetings are held monthly on the second Wednesday of each month, September through May at   Concerned Citizens. The meetings begin at 9:30 a.m. with refreshments and time to visit.   Programs and business sessions begin at 10:00 a.m.. A variety of programs are scheduled yearly   based on the interest and concerns of the membership. Master Gardeners from the area and other   professionals bring programs to help members with their gardening questions. Occasionally field   trips are planned to visit nurseries or other gardens of interest. A luncheon and plant exchange is   held for the May meeting and also for the December meeting in a member’s home.   Membership is open to anyone in Jack County that has an interest in learning more about   gardening techniques, both flower and vegetable, or anyone interested in the preservation of our   native plants. “No experience necessary, just an interest”, states Garden Club President, Debbie   Colbert. Membership dues are $15.00 for the year.   This month’s program, scheduled for Wednesday, April 13, will be a field trip to Bush Branch   Wholesale Nursery hosted by Pete Butler. The nursery is not open to the public, but special   arrangements were made for members of the Garden Club to shop and purchase plants. Lunch   will be provided at Susan Elmore’s home following the nursery visit. Anyone interested in joining   the Garden Club and participating in the field trip should meet at the church of Christ parking lot at   8:30 a.m. to carpool to the nursery. Due to the nursery visit, the meeting will begin earlier than   usual. Please call Gretta Owen at 567-3339 or Frances Easter at 567-5900 for further information   and to make arrangements for lunch.
