A tragic accident this afternoon claimed the life of a 15 year old Jacksboro Middle School student as she was walking south, toward town. The accident happened at approximately 3:15 pm, at the 2100 block of North Main. According to Police Chief Terry McDaniel the vehicle, also traveling southbound, veered off the highway and struck the girl. According to Chief McDaniel the driver believes that he fell asleep, and the accident is under investigation. In a very emotional and heartfelt statement, Chief McDaniel said “This was a very tragic incident and our hearts are with all of the families involved. There has been an investigation ongoing and we anticipate further investigation forthcoming. As yet, nothing appears to be criminal, it appears to be strictly a tragic accident. We will exhaust all leads in this investigation.”

The Jacksboro Middle School will be opened tomorrow, Monday November 21st, from 10am to noon for grief counseling. Both Chief McDaniel and SRO Matt Wyndham will be at the school, along with grief counselors. The Jack County New Edition extend our thoughts and prayers to the families involved. The name of the victim could not be released due to being a minor.
