Today was yet another historical day in Jack County. At approximately 10:30 a.m. Judge Mitchell Davenport swore in the newest County Commissioner, Keith Umphress. In front of a “standing room only” crowd, made up of family, friends, county officials and county employees Umphress took the oath and then signed the paperwork making it official.
Umphress was appointed to the interim position after the passing of the late Commissioner, Fearl Smith. Although the job officially began today, Umphress has already been out in his precinct assessing damage to the roads from recent storms and flooding.
Umphress knows that there is a lot of work to do, and is prepared to tackle it head and hands on. With a degree in Range Science, experience in law enforcement (he was a Highway Patrol officer) and long experience in the world of banking, Umphress stood out among those vying for the position. It will not be easy playing catch-up but both Umphress and residents of Precinct 1 are ready for whatever the future holds.
