Jacksboro FFA Shines at Competitions

Jacksboro FFA participated in the State Range Competition on Thursday, April 23rd in Stephenville. They were named as the 2015 State Champion as they completed the competition one point ahead of other teams in the competition. Johnny Callen was 2nd place individual, Megan Harris was 4th place individual, and Hunter Smith was 16th place individual. Other team members include Kamlynn Thomas and Hunter Hackley. These students will compete in the National Range Competition May 4-7 in Oklahoma City.

Also, the Jacksboro FFA participated in the Oil Belt District Convention on Monday, April 20th that was held at the Jacksboro ISD Auditorium. In the speaking events Hunter Hackley placed 2nd and Hunter Smith placed 3rd in Extemporaneous Speaking; Tyler Harmonson placed 2nd in Ag Policy; Hannah Herd placed 2nd in Ag Business; Megan Harris placed 2nd in Agri Science; Katelin Bailey placed 1st in Animal Science; Paige West placed 1st in Natural Resources; and Johnny Callan placed 1st in Plant Science. All students who placed 1st and 2nd advance to the Area competition onMay 8th.

Two students from Jacksboro ran for officer postitions. Johnny Callen was elected as the Oil Belt President for 2015-16 and Paige West received the Presidential Nomination for Area 4. West will run for a specific office on May 8t at the Area IV Convention that will be held in Vernon.

Lone Star Candidates for the Jacksboro FFA include Lexi Burnett and Paige West. These candidates will submit their record books again at the Area Degree Check.
