The weather outside was FAR from frightful on Thursday, December 10th as the city was, once again, the host of the Reindeer Games and Christmas parade. As the afternoon temperatures reached a high near the 80’s, vendors began setting up their shops in hopes that the mild weather would bring the crowds.
They were not disappointed.
From corn dogs and funnel cakes to pots of chili, vendors kept the visitors happily fed. Shopping for gifts was available as well, with a variety of items from ladies fashions to homemade goodies to fill the stockings.
This year the city provided several fun activities for the young (and not-so-young). There were 2 large bounce houses, which stayed busy from the time they set up until they were loaded up to go! Carolers gathered around the beautifully decorated Christmas tree that has graced the front of the old fire hall for the past couple of weeks, with many visitors gathering to have a photo taken in front of the tree.
Of course, the first of 2 main events began at 6:30…with a Christmas themed parade rolling through town. This year’s parade had well over 20 competing for the “braggin’ rights” of the Best Float contest. Once again, the City of Jacksboro pulled out a show stopping float themed to the Polar Express! The large black train (including smoke) made its way through town to the cheers of spectators!
Even the candidates for Sheriff got into the spirit, with one on the trailer of an 18 wheel truck and one riding shotgun on a stage coach.
After the parade, crowds gathered in anticipation of the Reindeer Games, an annual event where names are drawn from entries that people have received by shopping locally. The prizes are fabulous and this year was no exception. Congratulations to all of the winners!
