NASCAR unveils new trophy

NASCAR™, along with series sponsor Monster Energy™, recently unveiled the newly designed championship trophy to be awarded to the winner of the Monster Energy Cup Series™. Standing over 37 inches tall, and at 68 pounds, this beautiful trophy is made of machined aluminum, and showcases each of the 23 tracks of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (including Texas Motor Speedway). Resting below the cup is a hand-formed series seal, and the famous “Monster Energy Claw” is embedded into the base. With one last regular season race to run, several “top shelf” drivers are feeling the urgency to win, and many are wondering if the opportunity for a chance at the championship has slipped just beyond their grasp. Only one thing is for sure, a win guarantees you’re in the chase for the championship, and the opportunity to take home the stunning new trophy.

The quest for the Championship stops at Texas Motor Speedway the weekend of November 2 thru 5th. Since last year’s winner, Carl Edwards, has left NASCAR the field is wide open to begin new win streaks, although 7-time Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson is always a force to be reckoned with at TMS (and as the winner of the race this past April, the man knows this track like it was his own back yard!)

Also worthy of note, sadly, this will be the last chance to see NASCAR™ fan favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr race for a victory at TMS. The driver known simply as “Jr” has been an icon for the sport, and picked up his first win of his cup series career at Texas in the DirecTv 500, back in 2000. With 26 wins, 14 poles and 256 top 10 finishes, the celebration of a legend will be bittersweet. Since the inaugural race in 1997, many race legends have graced the track but few have reached the level of popularity seen by Jr.  With the retirement of Gordon, Stewart, and now Jr, the shoes left to fill are big ones. There is no telling where the new trophy will end up, and there is nothing but exciting race finishes standing between it and the driver that will eventually take it home. Grab you some popcorn and find a comfy chair, you do not want to miss a single second!
